foreverplaidCumming Playhouse suits up for its newest production

PlayRight Productions, the same talented company that produces Cumming Playhouse staples Smoke on the Mountain, Cotton Patch Gospel, and Sanders Family Christmas bring the story of The Plaids to life. Forever Plaid is chock-full of 1950’s and 1960’s music. Think of the musical stylings of The Four Aces, The Four Lads, or The Crew Cuts. You’ll love their renditions of “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “Love is a Many Splendored Thing,” “No Not Much,” and “Sh-Boom” to name a few. PlayRight Productions and director Craig A. Meyer are pleased to present Forever Plaid, opening May 21 and running through June 28.

Picture four young men, struggling to make it as a swing and standards close-harmony group in the pre-Beatles days of the early ’60s. What’s holding them back? They’re dead—wiped out by a bus full of schoolgirls on their way to witness The Beatles’ U.S. television debut on the Ed Sullivan show. The schoolgirls miraculously escape uninjured, but the harmony group is killed instantly. Their second opportunity to perform really is heaven-sent. They’re returned to earth many years later to put on the show they never performed in life. It’s a great show, fun music, and a must-see!

Cumming Playhouse director Linda Heard says, “We expect this to be another fabulous show at the Playhouse—and something a little different from PlayRight’s bluegrass offerings of Smoke on the Mountain and Sanders Family Christmas. This will allow [the cast and crew] to showcase their versatility.”

Director Craig A. Meyer has traversed the entertainment industry, making strong impressions in theatre, film, television, and music. A multi-talented award-winner, Meyer has directed, choreographed, and starred in Forever Plaid many times over. His career includes working with Tim Rice and Elton John on The Lion King, as well as touring and recording with music legends Barry Manilow and Frankie Valli.

Don’t miss this lively musical revue interspersed with witty and insightful banter about music and the love of it, stories of lifelong friendships, and the opportunity to “make one’s mark on the world.”
